This proverb advises remaining faithful to one’s spouse rather than seeking new relationships. Abandoning a satisfied wife for another hungry one will only create more problems and unsatisfied desires. In other words, it is better to appreciate and be content with what one has rather than covet what one cannot fulfill. This is similar to the English proverb ‘A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush’.
