Miteny Irery Toy Ny Miresaka Amim-Bazimba
This proverb refers to an old belief where the Vazimba were considered to be the first inhabitants of Madagascar, often seen as spirits or mystical beings. Talking to Vazimba was generally seen as a solitary activity since these spirits were not visible or did not respond directly. Thus, this proverb pokes fun at or criticizes those who talk to themselves, implying they are talking to someone or something that does not respond, like the Vazimba. An equivalent English proverb might be: ‘Talking to oneself, like a madman.’ This highlights the idea of loneliness and lack of reciprocal communication.
