Masiaka Amboa Hadivory Ka Mandany Zara Ny Tompony.
This proverb was used to describe harsh parents who were obstacles to their daughters’ marriage. For example, if a father is very strict and unwelcoming, suitors may be too scared to approach his daughter. The fierce dog symbolizes the parent’s intimidating nature, which ultimately prevents the daughter from marrying, thus becoming a loss for the family. An equivalent proverb in English could be, ‘A closed mouth catches no flies’.
